Boroughwide PSPO

On Tuesday, 27 August 2024, the boroughwide Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) was approved by our cabinet.

The boroughwide PSPO is in effect from Monday, 16 September 2024. It allows us to tackle antisocial behaviour, with support from the police, across the borough of Rochdale.

Areas covered by the PSPO

The boroughwide PSPO covers all public spaces across the whole of the borough of Rochdale.

Restrictions of the PSPO

The PSPO prohibits the following activities:

  • Drinking alcohol in public areas - it's an offence to drink alcohol in a public area if the area isn't licensed for the consumption of alcohol.
  • Using mechanically propelled vehicles (MPVs) - it's an offence to use an MPV on public land or any other land without permission.

End date of the PSPO

The boroughwide PSPO will expire in August 2027.
