Rochdale short breaks youth session

Our short breaks funded  universal youth sessions provides an environment for young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities to participate in a wide range of activities to promote their social, emotional development and with skills and knowledge to best support their needs.

Street-based youth session

Rochdale Youth Service offer a football session in partnership with Rochdale Football Club. This session is accessible to all young people whether you want to just watch or want to play. 

We offer support for both new players and players with great skills. So, if you are up to the challenge, want to have fun, build stamina, stay fit and play as a team, come along.

Street-based youth work

Youth Workers meeting young people in their space and community within the Spotland and Falinge areas. Youth workers engage with young people on a voluntary engagement in conversations and activities, hoping to help find out about their needs or concerns, offering informal education and support to help their development both personally and socially. Detached work is also an opportunity for us to connect with people in their homes, check on their wellbeing, and connect them with other services. We also visit hotspots of anti-social behaviour in the hope of engaging young people in positive conversations and other diversionary activities.

Freehold youth club

The youth session provides young people the opportunity to engage with Youth Workers in a safe space in a community setting in partnership with Rochdale Borough Housing RBH). The session is open to young people living in the community, all young people will be welcomed and respected.

There will be weekly activities such as art and crafts, cooking, issue based work and informal education as well as being somewhere to spend time with old friends and possible make new. You will also get the chance to have your voice on things that affect you living in the Freehold community through the RBH representatives.

The Annex is based next to the kick pitch, which provides outside space for things such as ball games or outdoor cooking and other prospects such as gardening on the estate. It’s an opening to take an active part in your community as well as being part of the wider community.

Youth workers will share opportunities to be involved in other projects and services as well as borough wide events and half term programmes.

Youth Workers meeting young people in their space and community within the Balderstone and Kirkholt areas. Youth workers engage with young people on a voluntary engagement in conversations and activities, hoping to help find out about their needs or concerns, offering informal education and support to help their development both personally and socially. Detached work is also an opportunity for us to connect with people in their homes, check on their wellbeing, and connect them with other services. We also visit hotspots of anti-social behaviour in the hope of engaging young people in positive conversations and other diversionary activities.

Smallbridge youth club

This group provides a safe space for all young people living in the Smallbridge community and surrounding area. Everyone is treated with respect and encouraged to develop as a person by trying new things.

We aim to inspire young people to take an active part in their community by engaging is positive activities such as cooking, arts and crafts and sports, as well as appropriate informal education sessions.

We have places to chat and chill, play music, pool or other games. It’s also an opportunity to make new friends, learn new skills and a link to lots of other events and activities such as half term trips, youth councils, Duke of Edinburgh, community celebrations and much more.

Supportive education

At supportive education we work with young people who struggle in mainstream school, in particular those who have challenging behaviour, poor attendance or at risk of permanent exclusion and serious youth violence. Through informal education the sessions aims to develop the young people’s life skills, with them taking part in sport, cooking, art and science projects along with having discussions about relevant topics. 

Schools can refer a young person to these sessions. The young person would remain on roll at their current school but would attend our provision 2 days a week.

Outdoor activities group including the Department of Education

This group meets every Wednesday evening at Matthew Moss Youth Centre. We plan and get involved in all things outdoors including the Duke of Edinburgh’s award for those who are interested. The youth group is made up of young people from across the borough, if you are interested in getting involved, please drop in.

Castleton seniors youth club

The youth centre welcomes all friends or individuals to come together in a safe space and become part of the youth group, (no referral needed, voluntary engagement). We aim to inspire young people to develop holistically by engaging in positive activities and opportunities appropriate to them provided by the Youth Service and our partner agencies. 
We treat everyone with respect and encouraged them to enjoy activities such as cooking, sports, art and crafts as well as appropriate informal education sessions, giving them the chance to gain and improve skills and find out what they are good at, maybe creating future aspirations. It’s also a place just to chat and chill, play music, pool or other games and be more independent.

The group provides links to lots of other events and activities in the Youth Service such as half term trips, youth councils, Duke of Edinburgh, community celebrations and much more.

Fusion sports and youth club

Cost: £1

We offer an inclusive youth session at Central Leisure every Friday evening. This is a safe space for all young people living in the borough of Rochdale to participate in a variety of sports, from football to badminton, basketball, table tennis, and can also come along to watch sports, relax, chat, and take part in other games, quizzes, discussions, and debates.
