Damaged or dangerous protected trees
If a protected tree has become damaged or dangerous, for example from strong winds, you can carry out work to make it safe.
You must:
- Let us know about the damage:
- In emergencies, you must tell us about any emergency work as soon as possible using the details on this page. If possible, take photographs of the damage or get a qualified tree surgeon to make a written report of the emergency work needed and send us a copy.
- In non-emergencies, you must email us at least 5 working days before you start work on a protected tree that is damaged but doesn't have any immediate risks. In your email, include photographs of the damage, what work you intend to do and why the work is needed.
- Be able to prove any work carried out was essential to make the tree safe.
- Only undertake the minimum amount of tree work needed to make the tree safe. If any additional work is required, you'll need to apply for consent to work on a protected tree.
