Amount you'll get and when you're paid
The maximum amount you might get is your full rent minus the amount of Housing Benefit or the housing element of your Universal Credit you receive.
If you've been affected by the Benefit Cap, you may be allowed more depending on your circumstances.
If your claim is successful and you receive:
- Housing Benefit - you'll get your Discretionary Housing Payment at the same time as your next Housing Benefit payment.
- Universal Credit - you'll get your Discretionary Housing Payment as a separate payment paid directly into your bank account.
