What are Changing Places toilets?
Changing Places toilets are different to standard accessible toilets. Lots of people with disabilities cannot use standard accessible toilets and need the additional equipment or space you get in a Changing Places toilet.
Changing Places toilets should include:
- An adult-sized changing bench you can lift up and down.
- Wide disposable paper roll to cover the bench.
- A built-in hoist system, or a mobile hoist if this is not possible.
- Space in the changing area for the person with a disability and up to 2 personal assistants.
- A toilet with room on either side for personal assistants.
- A screen or curtain to give the person with a disability and their assistants some privacy.
- A large waste bin for disposable pads.
- Non-slip flooring.
