Deputy Mayoress – Jennifer Kelly
Deputy Mayoress of Rochdale 2026-2027
Jennifer was born at Birch Hill Hospital and brought up in Whitworth, the 4th of 6 children. She was educated at St Anselm’s Primary School, St Wilfrid’s Middle School and Bishop Henshaw’s Upper School. She went on to study Combined Mathematics and Science at the University of Staffordshire, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education in Worcester.

Jennifer returned to Rochdale to pursue a career in primary education, where she made a significant contribution over many years.
She later became Head of CDT at Moorhouse Primary School in Milnrow, where their children, Joseph and Eleanor, were pupils before continuing their education at Hollingworth Academy. After retiring from teaching, Jennifer established and managed a fancy dress shop in Rochdale for 5 years.
She continues to pursue this creative interest as costume coordinator for the Whitworth Amateur Musical and Dramatic Society. She has a deep appreciation for nature and the outdoors and particularly enjoys gardening and walking in the Pennines surrounding Milnrow and Newhey.
