The book is a 'Riches to Rags' story from holiday camp Redcoat to Bluecoat, then on to his first big break on television (after many struggles). Jimmy went on to headline for 4 of his own series for Central Television in the 1980s with 'Royal Command Performances' and TV Variety shows in between, then his BBC Radio 2 series written by the great scriptwriter Eddie Braben in the 1990s. This ran for 5 years and was called 'Jimmy's Cricket Team'.
As Jimmy says himself in the book,
"I hope it brings back warm memories for older readers, and gives a taste to younger readers of a form of entertainment that seemed to vanish before our very eyes."
Jimmy will also perform some stand-up comedy and take questions from the audience. If you wish to purchase Jimmy’s book, copies will be available on the day priced at £10 (cash only, please), which Jimmy will be pleased to sign.
The event is free to attend. In place of a fee, Jimmy would be grateful for a small donation towards the charity Mary’s Meals, though this is optional.
