Introduction

Obtaining building regulation approval is a legal requirement, which is separate from obtaining planning permission.

If you're considering constructing a new building or extension, changing a building’s use or energy status or undertaking alterations, then Building Control will ensure that you comply with your responsibilities associated with the building regulations. The role of the Building Control team is to assess controlled work through plan assessment and onsite inspections to ensure that the work satisfies the building regulations which are set by government. We also have a legal responsibility to collect specific information relating to duty holder competence which includes clients, contractors and designers.

Building Control enforcement applies to controlled building work, unauthorised building work, dangerous and dilapidated buildings, buildings left open to unauthorised access, buildings scheduled for demolition and safety at sportsgrounds.
