English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) courses are taken by people whose first language is not English and who need English to communicate in daily life. To help you find the right ESOL class, we collect personal information about you. This information helps us to understand which class is suitable for you and also who is using this service.
We will use the contact details you give us to contact you about the course we can offer you.
Rochdale Borough Council (the Council) is funded by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) to deliver the ESOL Advice Service. Once you have accepted a course, we collect your personal data from course providers to check whether you are continuing with a course so that we can update our records.

We collect personal information to make sure that we can carry out our work. The personal information we collect includes:
- Name, address and contact details, for example telephone number or email address. We will use the contact details you give us to contact you about the course we can offer you
- Date of birth, age and gender
- Marital status
- Identifiers, for example National Insurance number
- Health information, including disabilities, to match you to the best course
- Data revealing racial or ethnic origin
- Immigration and residency status
- Household situation and dependants including if you need childcare support
- Financial and employment situation

- Provision of employment, education and training advice or support
- Maintaining accounts and records
- Processing applications, requests and appeals

- GMCA, who provide funding for the service and receive statistical information

- This service doesn't make any decisions using computers or programmes that don't involve a human being when using your personal information.
- How long we keep your personal information
- We keep personal information collected as part of this process for a minimum of a minimum of 7 years or as long as the organisation providing us with funding asks us to.
