Guided walks
The trail covers 24 sites, each with their own fascinating story. You can do the trail in one go or follow 3 shorter routes, which are named red, green and blue. The guided walks below cover one or more of these shorter routes.
10.30am–12.30pm, Saturday, 14 September 2024
- Meeting place: car park by St Leonard's Church, St Leonard's Square, Middleton M24 6DJ
- Route: red route – Middleton's Golden Cluster
- Details: this walk will take you around Middleton’s Golden Cluster of Architecture and History. Discover Middleton’s oldest church, as well as architectural gems designed by eminent Middleton architect Edgar Wood. Find out more about the town’s links to the Jacobite rebellion and the Peterloo Massacre.
2pm–4pm, Saturday, 14 September 2024
- Meeting place: Moonraker sculpture, Middleton Gardens, Middleton M24 4DF
- Route: green route – Manchester Old Road and Alkrington Woods
- Details: join us for this guided walk, which will take you from Middleton town centre, through Middleton’s parks and green spaces. You'll also discover beautiful late 19th century suburbs and stunning Palladian architecture.
10.30am–1pm, Sunday, 15 September 2024
- Meeting place: car park by St Leonard's Church, St Leonard's Square, Middleton M24 6DJ
- Routes:
- Red route – Middleton's Golden Cluster
- Blue route – Middleton town centre and Market Place
- Details: as well as the highlights of the Golden Cluster described above, this walk will take you around Middleton’s mills and town centre. Discover Middleton’s social history and what it would have been like to live and work in Middleton during the Industrial Revolution.
