  • There are no changes to bin collections on bank holidays, except over Christmas and New Year. See bank holiday changes and opening hours.
  • There are no bin collections scheduled on a Monday so there is no change to bin collections on Bank holidays.
  • Your bins will be collected on the same day as usual over Easter and Good Friday.
  • If you don't know which day your bin is normally collected, you can check by using our bin collection calendar.
  • The household recycling centres (rubbish tips) are open every day of the year except for Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Details of your waste and recycling sites.
  • You must put your bin out no later than 7am on your collection day. If your bins are not available for collection when we visit your property, we will not return.
  • If you think we've missed your bin, report a missed bin collection.
  • If we experience severe weather or the road conditions are compromised there may be disruption to your bin collections. We understand you'll have concerns about this if we experience such conditions, so please see our advice below about bin collections in severe weather.
  • Any additional recycling presented for collection next to the relevant bin or caddy will be accepted by crews providing it has been secured to prevent being blown away in windy weather or scattered by wildlife. Large items such as cardboard boxes should be folded down to make them as manageable as possible. Additional paper and card should be folded and secured next to the blue recycling bin. Additional mixed recycling items should be presented for collection next to the green and blue recycling bin and should be presented in a container that makes it easy to view the contents, one that is suitable to hold such items safely and securely and one that is easy for the crews to empty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why has my brown bin not been emptied completely?

When the weather is particularly cold, there may be occasions when some brown bins are not emptied completely. This is because any moisture created by garden and food waste may freeze in the cold weather, resulting in some waste getting stuck to the bottom of the bin. We endeavour to collect and empty every bin. Where the content remains stuck to the bottom of the bin, the bin operatives will return the bin to the kerbside with the content still in the bin.

If this happens, we ask that you bring your bins back in. We will then empty your brown bin on your next scheduled collection day.

When will my bins be collected?

Use the bin days calendar to find when your bins are next due for collection. We'll update this page with any changes: Bin days calendar.

Why haven't my bins been collected on my bin day?

If we haven't yet collected your rubbish, we'll be on our way, please bear with us. During periods of severe weather conditions we may experience some delays in getting to your area and may even have to suspend collections until conditions improve. We'll update this page with any changes.

There are a number of reasons, depending on where you live, why we may not be able to collect. For instance, we may struggle to get to many places due to there being lots of ice remaining on the ground. We have to make risk assessments to determine whether or not it's safe for refuse collection wagons to enter a particular road.

Another reason could be there is more rubbish for us to collect because we simply haven't been able to collect due to the dangerous conditions. This means our collection service has slowed up significantly, but we're doing our very best – with the resources we have at our disposal – to get the collection service back to normal as quickly as possible.

What should I do with my bins if they've not been collected during severe weather conditions?

This very much depends on the situation at the time. We'll update this page with any changes.

However, if it's possible, it would help if you could take them to your nearest household waste recycling centre.
