Supplementary Planning Documents and Guidance

Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs)

SPDs expand on and interpret policies in development plans to provide additional guidance for developers and others.

They are subject to rigorous procedures of community involvement and sustainability appraisal. Once adopted they are used along side the relevant policies in the determination of planning applications.

The SPDs were reviewed in February 2017, to ensure that they were up to date, especially in terms of references to other documents such as the newly adopted Core Strategy, and, in the case of the Provision of Recreational Open Space in New Housing SPD, changes in national policy. However, no changes were made to the requirements of the SPDs which were not a reflection of nationally prescribed requirements, and the SPDs continue in their status as adopted planning documents.

Supplementary Planning Guidance Notes (SPGs)

SPGs will be saved until they are cancelled or superseded (by revised SPDs or when linked policies are reviewed or cancelled through new Development Plan Document's).

These have been prepared under the old planning arrangements before the Local Development Framework was introduced by the ‘Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004’. These SPGs listed below will continue to be used to assist decision making on planning applications.
