Street naming and numbering

This page contains the forms to request a new address for a property or properties when you've got planning approval for a development.

Requesting a house number for a single property

If you're a developer of a new property you'll only be able to request a number for the property when you've received building regulation approval.

You'll then need to:

  1. Complete the online form below.
  2. Pay the relevant fee - see table below for costs.
  3. Attach a PDF to the forms showing the location of the front door. This plan will also need to show the position of the development in relation to other properties.
  4. Pass on the relevant information to the prospective purchasers of the property. You can only do this once we've allocated the numbers and informed utilities companies, Land Registry, Royal Mail, emergency services, Ordnance Survey and all relevant council services.

  6. You'll need to provide new street name plates to our standard design.
  7. You'll need to provide all plans as PDF files.
  8. For new estates you may want to enter into a Section 38 Agreement for the council to adopt the road/s. Please state on the form, if you wish to do so. We'll then pass it to the relevant engineer to arrange.

Street naming in support of our Armed Forces

On 17 April 2013 the council supported the implementation of a policy of offering families of fallen service personnel who have died in active duty from the borough of Rochdale a chance to have a street or road named after their loved one.

Such lasting recognition, if this were the wishes of the family, could be a poignant way of demonstrating the community's admiration for those who serve and the value the whole country places on their courage and patriotism.

If you feel you would like to do this you'll need to:

  1. Complete the online form below.
  2. Give details of your proposal including the name of the person you would like to have a street named after and their details.

We'll try to accommodate you as much as possible with regard to the name of the street and its location, discuss this with you at every stage and keep you informed.
