Prizes for the Williams BMW Rochdale Half Marathon and 10K which takes place this October have been confirmed.

The total prize fund is over £2,500, with voucher prizes for the first 5 men and women in the Half Marathon and 10K, plus 8 age category prizes for both races.

Top prize for the half marathon is a £100 voucher for nationwide running store ‘Up and Running,’ with an £80 voucher going to second place, £60 for third, £40 for fourth and £30 for fifth.

The winner of the 10K will get an £80 voucher, with £60 for second, £40 for third and £30 and £20 for fourth and fifth placed runners.

There are also 2 club team prizes up for grabs and prizes for the first 2 non-club teams.

On Sunday, 8 October 2017runners will set off from Rochdale Town Hall across new traffic-free courses taking in town and countryside, including a stunning section around Hollingworth Lake.

The half marathon leaves the town hall along the Esplanade and runs the edge of Broadfield Park, before heading through to the Rochdale Canal at Oldham Road Basin. The route then heads past Kingsway Business Park and Smithy Bridge along the canal. Close to the Waterside Restaurant the route leaves the tow path and heads up Hollingworth Road towards Hollingworth Lake, making a clockwise loop of the lake. It then returns down Hollingworth Road and back on to the canal. The race retraces its outward route from the town hall until it reaches Broadfield Park, where runners will go through the park before re-joining The Esplanade for the final sprint to the finish line.

’Entries are already 35% up on this time last year’

The 10K follows the same route as the half marathon on to the canal, but leaves the canal at the swing bridge at Kingsway Business Park, making a loop of pleasant cycleways, before returning to the canal and the same finishing route as the half marathon.

Details of this year’s fun run will be announced in June 2017.

Williams BMW Rochdale Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run is organised by Middleton Harriers, Rochdale Harriers and Rochdale Triathlon Club supported by us. A breakdown of the prizes, online entry and more information is available at Williams BMW Rochdale Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run.

Councillor Janet Emsley, the council’s cabinet member for culture, health and wellbeing, said: “Entries are already 35% up on this time last year and we are hoping to see a lot of new faces. With a 1 mile and 10K as well as the half marathon there’s something for every ability. We are expecting to attract runners from across the North West and beyond, giving a boost to the local economy. This event helps promote health and fitness as well as putting the borough in the spotlight. The health benefits of running are widely known, and it is my hope that this event will inspire people to take a more active interest in sports and embrace a healthy lifestyle.”
