We don’t need toothpaste to make our parks shine

11 July 2018

Toothpaste boxes littering a play area.

Finding hundreds of boxes of toothpaste strewn across Eafield Road play area on Sunday, 8 July 2018 didn't make councillors Allen Brett or Aftab Hussain smile. Local residents requested the councillors get their teeth into the problem and returned the park to its crowning glory.

The councillors ordered the extraction of 17 bags worth of toothpaste from Belfield Park, near to the children's play area: a clean-up taking our staff 2 hours to complete.

Belfield Park is a destination play area with fantastic facilities for local families with children of all ages. The multi-use play area is well used thanks to the alien centrepiece, playing pitch area and outside gym.

Councillor Allen Brett, our leader, bristled: "Fly-tipping and littering aren't sensitive topics in Rochdale. We'll fight tooth and nail to find out who did this and we will drill down to the truth".

Councillor Aftab Hussain mirrored: "You took the words right out of my mouth. We did think about putting a plaque up in the area but then brushed it off".
