We've been nominated for a top national award for the innovative services we deliver to residents across the borough.
We're one of 6 local authorities vying to be crowned Co-operative council of the year at a coveted awards ceremony in Manchester on Friday, 21 June 2019.
And now we're calling on residents, voluntary groups and businesses across the borough to join forces and back Rochdale to scoop the award by voting for us. The deadline for voting is midnight on Thursday, 13 June 2019.
We secured our place on the shortlist through a visionary approach to implementing Co-operative values at a local level.
Our success stories that wowed judges included the award-winning In Bloom initiative, a doubling of local spend and a dynamic partnership approach for delivering housing and health initiatives.
"As the home of the Co-op movement, we're proud to have been shortlisted for this top award"
There are over 30 Co-operative organisations in our town and, in a further boost, our enterprise hub is planned to support ambitious Co-operative policies in the coming years.
Councillor Allen Brett, our council leader, said: “As the home of the Co-op movement, we are proud to have been shortlisted for this top award. Our pioneering spirit burns as brightly today as it did when the Co-op party was formed in our town all those years ago.
"We have worked in partnership with organisations across the borough to deliver award-winning services, like the In Bloom initiative, housing and health partnerships, armed forces support networks and many others. Rochdale has always led the way with forward-looking progressive policies, so I would ask people to go to vote and help give us the honour of being crowned Co-operative council of the year.”
