A new fun and interactive Family Zone for parents and children is being introduced as part of Rochdale Feel Good Festival this summer.
The Esplanade in front of Rochdale Town Hall will be transformed into a Festival Square for youngsters and their families between 11am-5pm as part of the annual event headlined by rock band Feeder on Saturday, 18 August 2018.
The Family Zone is supported by Arts Council England National Lottery funding, in partnership with Link4Life. Just like the rest of the festival, admission is free and no tickets are required.
Activities and shows will include:
The Actual Reality Arcade - a life-sized interactive game zone for all ages, inspired by classic arcade games. You’ll be able to pilot spaceships, dodge barrels, avoid lasers, build Tetris walls, fire rockets, shoot alien invaders and become Pac-Man. Expect lots of physical fun as you bring the games to life! Since launching in 2017 the arcade has toured across England mixing interactive fun and laughter with physical play and engagement, whilst bringing back nostalgic memories and giving opportunities for new happy ones.
Watch out for the
Urban Astronaut – a bold physical theatre performance exploring the environmental issue of air pollution. It features an astronaut suspended up to 20ft in the air, walking as if without gravity, spinning and turning, using the flying machine to highlight important messages in a fun way, suitable for all ages.
‘Lots of activities to keep the kids busy and parents are welcome to join in too’
Bicycle Ballet will present their ‘Strictly Cycling’ show - an improvisational, visual performance and choreography inspired by flash mobs, dada-ism, everyday cycling experiences and the great British weather!
A team of dancers from the appropriately named
‘The Dance we Made’ will be re-creating new moves based on their experiences at the Rochdale summer festival and performing them live in Festival Square.
Children will also be entertained by 2 flying dodos. Much larger than their extinct cousins and almost able to fly, Charles and Amelia are very excited to be travelling the world to see what they’ve been missing!
Appealing to all ages, the Family Zone will also feature live performances from local groups including Skylight Circus and Cartwheel Arts.
Councillor Janet Emsley, our cabinet member for neighbourhoods, community and culture said:
“Our new Family Zone will have lots of activities to keep the kids busy and parents are welcome to join in too. Family entertainment is something visitors told us they would like to see increased, and this year thanks to support from the Arts Council England National Lottery funding, there will be more for children and their grown-ups than ever.”
Rochdale Feel Good Festival will include live music across indoor venues, the main stage against the backdrop of the town hall and a quality food and drink court. The festival is funded by us together with sponsorship from
The Flying Horse Hotel, Arts Council England National Lottery Funding,
The Wellington gastro pub,
The Royal Toby and other local businesses.
