Recognise youth talent with the Mayor's Youth Awards

11 April 2019

Winners of last year's Mayor's Youth Awards.

The search is on for the borough's next young superstar as the Mayor's Youth Award's launches.

Now in their 8th year, the uplifting awards, organised by Rochdale Youth Service, recognise and celebrate the fantastic achievements, contributions and developments of young people across Rochdale borough.

'These awards identify and reward the young people who are making a positive impact in our borough through their own hard work'

Gail Hopper, Director of Children's Services, said: "These awards identify and reward the young people who are making a positive impact in our borough through their own hard work, compassion and dedication. It is important that we recognise them for the work they are doing and the positive impact they have on their peer groups and the community."

They set a great example to other young people about what is possible by working hard and achieving success

We are looking for nominations to recognise young people who have made a real difference to the people in their lives, whether it's through work in the community, sporting achievement or through commitment to their friends and family. These are the unsung heroes - who do special things to help others or, through their talent and ability, set a great example to other young people about what is possible by working hard and achieving success.

Nominations are now open and they close on Monday, 6 May 2019.

Anyone can nominate a young person who lives in the borough aged 11-19, or up to 25 if they have a disability.

'It's a proud occasion for the council's youth service and we can't wait to read the new nominations'

Diane Higgins, from our youth service, said: "These awards are always so inspiring, we get amazing nominations that really do to reflect the remarkable talent and dedication we have in our young people. It's a proud occasion for the council's youth service and we can't wait to read the new nominations."

The winners will be selected by young people from Darnhill in Heywood, who are organising this year's award ceremony. Nominees will be invited to the award ceremony on Tuesday, 25 June 2019 at Rochdale Town Hall.
