The first band has been revealed for the main stage line-up at Rochdale Feel Good Festival this summer.

Inspiral Carpets tribute ‘The Kar-pets’ fronted by Tom Hingley, former lead singer of the Inspirals, will play the main stage by the town hall on Saturday, 12 August 2017, during the second day of our event – the biggest FREE music and food festival in the north west.

The Inspiral Carpets were one of the most popular alternative rock bands of the 1990s, playing a large part in the ‘Madchester’ movement and Tom sang on all their chart hits including This is How It Feels, She Comes in the Fall, Caravan, Saturn 5 and I Want You.

With Tom Hingley at the helm, The Kar-Pets perform songs from the 30-plus years of the Inspiral Carpets' back catalogue, including classic hits from their four studio albums. Formed last year, the band performing big tunes from the Manchester indie heroes have fast become favourites at festivals across the UK, with a busy schedule of dates this summer before and after their Rochdale debut.

Frontman Tom Hingley said the band are looking forward to the show:

“We’re all thoroughly excited about being part of Rochdale Feel Good Festival’s ten year celebrations and are looking forward to the party.”

Rochdale Feel Good Festival returns on Friday 11 and Saturday, 12 August 2017, for another showcase of entertainment, food and culture.

‘There’s a real buzz around the festival this year as we get ready to celebrate our tenth birthday’

The festival which is celebrating its tenth birthday will include live music across indoor venues, a main stage against the backdrop of the town hall, a quality food court and family entertainment.

The festival is funded by the council together with sponsorship from local businesses and more acts will be announced this month.

Councillor Janet Emsley, our cabinet member for culture, health and wellbeing said:

“There’s a real buzz around the festival this year as we get ready to celebrate our tenth birthday and we’ve had a great reaction from artists who want to be part of this special year. The Karpets have been getting a great reception at gigs around the country and I am looking forward to their set on the Saturday afternoon which is sure to be a crowd pleaser. Rochdale Feel Good Festival is an unmissable event for friends and family to enjoy, and always a good opportunity for local businesses to host their own event, so if you would like to be part of it, get in touch now, space is always in high demand.” Once again a local band will get chance to play the main stage. The Battle of the Bands competition will be launched this month with local acts encouraged to apply to win the coveted slot.
