Council Leader’s upbeat festive message

22 December 2017

Council leader Allen Brett.

Rochdale Council leader Allen Brett has sent an upbeat Christmas and New Year message to residents across the borough.

Councillor Brett said the council could be proud of its achievements and promised to build on the many success stories over the next 12 months.

He praised council staff for their hard work and commitment in delivering a number of award-winning and innovative services throughout 2017.

The newly appointed leader added how important it was for residents to keep an eye out for their neighbours over the festive period.

Councillor Brett said: "It has been a year of progress and delivery. I am particularly proud of our adult care service being rated one of the best in the country, the countless 'In Bloom awards' and the new businesses in Rochdale town centre thanks to our pioneering policies.

'Working together, we can take further giant steps forward in 2018 across all parts of the borough'

"We have done so much, but there is still more to do. Council staff, local residents and our partners have again gone the extra the mile. Working together, we can take further giant steps forward in 2018 across all parts of the borough.

"Christmas is for sharing and giving, but let's not forget for many it can be a lonely time. I would ask all residents to keep any eye out for their neighbours over the festive period. A simply gesture, like a knock on the door or a phone call, can mean a lot.

"There are challenging times ahead, but let's enjoy the break before the hard work begins again. And on that note I wish everyone a very merry Christmas and peaceful New Year."
