Borough’s carers to enjoy week of events and celebration

06 June 2017

Carers from across the borough will be enjoying a fantastic week of events.

Hundreds of carers from across Rochdale will get together for a series of celebrations to mark National Carers’ Week from Monday, 12 - Sunday, 18 June 2017.

The council has organised a packed week of events recognising the efforts of the 23,500 carers across the borough.

Key attractions include a cream tea morning at Heywood Market (10am-noon, Tuesday 13 June), a coffee and cake event at Middleton Arena (10am-1pm, Thursday, 15 June 2017) and a carers’ cupcake afternoon at Woodclough Day Centre Middleton (2pm-3pm, Thursday, 15 June 2017).

Younger carers will be able to show off their bowling skills, when they can ‘strike it lucky’ at a ten pin bowling evening at Strike Ten Bowling, Sandbrooke Retail Park, 7pm-9pm, Monday, 12 June 2017.

The carers’ hub will be on hand at the council’s Number One Riverside Building in Rochdale town centre, and Rochdale Infirmary throughout the week to provide information, advice and help about the range of excellent carers’ services provided locally.

'To complete a wonderful week, carers can indulge in coffee and cake at the popular Rebecca’s Café, Hare Hill Road, Littleborough, from 9.30am-11am, Friday, 16 June 2017.'

Shirley Henderson, of Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Carers’ Week is about saying a big thank you, as we reach out to the thousands of people in our borough who care for a loved one throughout the year. There are thousands of unsung heroes doing such a fantastic and selfless job caring for those close to them. It is these dedicated people we are paying tribute to throughout the week.”

Teresa Jennings, chief executive of N-Compass, who run the events for the council, said: “We are extremely proud to be working alongside the carers of Rochdale during Carers’ Week. It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase the incredible work they do and the impact they have on the lives of others. The new Carers’ Hub Rochdale is all about supporting those with caring responsibilities in the borough and carers’ week is a key part of this work”

Carers’ Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK.
