Regional recognition: Apprenticeship team make North West finals

03 August 2018

Following hard on the heels of an invite to the House of Commons, the team that manages our apprenticeship programme has learned that their nomination for the National Apprenticeship Awards has seen them shortlisted for the North West Regional Finals.

The National Apprenticeship Awards, now in their 15th year, showcase the diverse range of sectors engaged with apprenticeships and celebrate outstanding apprentices, employers and those individuals who go above and beyond to champion apprenticeships.

Over 130 apprentices have started their roles with us and local schools in the last year, one of the highest amounts in local government.

The hard work and success of the team means that we are one of only 5 public sector bodies to meet our apprenticeship start target this year, with at least 2.3 per cent of our staff being apprentices.

"They do a wonderful job with our apprenticeship programme and the figures speak for themselves"

Councillor John Blundell.

Councillor John Blundell, Cabinet Member for Skills and Employment, said: "It's great to see the team getting recognition at a regional level and we hope through to the national finals. They do a wonderful job with our apprenticeship programme and the figures speak for themselves; the team should be very proud of all that they are achieving".

The team are now awaiting final judging to see whether they are a finalist for the North West and success there would see them nominated for the National Awards.

Andy Turner, who manages our apprenticeship programme, said: "We are extremely pleased to have made it through the first stage and it would be great recognition for everyone involved in the apprenticeship programme in the council and our schools, if we became a finalist in the North West Awards".

"Driving force for delivering high quality apprenticeships"

This builds on recent success for the team when they were recognised as one of the top employers in the country after the government hailed its pioneering apprenticeship scheme. They were praised as a 'driving force for delivering high quality apprenticeships' at a special House of Commons ceremony to celebrate successful schemes last month.
