Library charges

​​​​Avoid fines for overdue items by getting reminders for when they're due back. If you cannot get to the library on time you can usually renew your loans and avoid fines.

How to renew your loans

Fines for overdue books and audio items

These rates apply from 1 April 2017.

Book loans

  • Adults including over 60s, 20p per item per day, to a maximum fine of £12 per item.
  • Under 17s no charge. 
  • Admin charge for lost or damaged items £2.10.


  • It's FREE to reserve items in the library catalogue. 


  • To request an item not in stock £3.90.
  • To request a copy of a journal article £3.90.

Request charges are non-refundable.

Audio loans

  • Playaways; audio books & learn-a-language £1.40
  • (free for visually impaired).
  • Non-return of chargeable battery for Playaways (per battery) £2.20
  • Additional charge per day if overdue 10p.
  • Portable headphones £1.40.

Replacement membership cards

  • Adult £2.50.
  • Under 17s £1.25.


  • Black & white A4 (single sided) 10p.
  • Black & white A3 (single sided) 20p.
  • Colour prints A4 (single sided) 40p.
  • Colour prints A3 (single sided) 70p.

Microprints/prints from

  • Per print 90p.

Local history digital prints on photographic paper

  • Postcard size £4.
  • A4 £7.50.
  • A3 £15.


  • First sheet £2.
  • Each subsequent sheet 60p.
  • Incoming faxes £1.4​0.

Meeting room hire charge

  • £18.50 per hour (reduced rate for community groups considered).
