Why study music theory?
Music theory is essential for understanding the core concepts that underpin the music that you play, whatever your music style, genre or instrument.
In addition, if you wish to progress beyond grade 5 on your instrument using the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) exams, you will need to have passed grade 5 theory.
Your teacher will incorporate some music theory into your instrumental lessons, but as playing is the main focus of your lessons you may wish to know more.
What levels can I learn?
We teach music theory from beginners at grade 1 right up to grade 8.
Will I need to buy anything for the lessons?
Our staff will provide materials and learning resources so you are not required to buy anything. However, there are a range of tutor books and apps that will support you for little or no cost if you choose. Your tutor will be able to advise you on which ones are most relevant for you.
Can I have individual or group lessons?
We will be offering group theory lessons at set times in the near future. For now, we just offer individual lessons.
