We're proud to give primary and secondary schools in the borough of Rochdale and Whitworth all the support they need to bring music to their classrooms as part of a broad and balanced curriculum.

How to book a music package

If you would like to access our music services for schools:

  1. Note down the services you would like from the list below to create your music package
  2. Get in touch with Rochdale Music Service to discuss your school's requirements

Create a music package from the following services

As a teacher, you're invited to select as many of the following services as you'd like. This will help you create a unique package tailored for your school's requirements.

Option 1 - Instrumental tuition
Primary schools - £38 per hour
Secondary schools - £37 per hour

Students can have music lessons on a wide range of instruments. These lessons can be given to students individually, or in groups of up to 4 children at a time.

Option 2 - Whole class instrumental projects
£42 per hour

This involves a whole class playing musical instruments together. We provide the instruments. As part of the project, students learn to read music and to appreciate and experience different styles of music.

We offer:

  • Mixed strings - violins, cellos and double bass (reduced sizes available)
  • Brass - pocket cornets, cornets, trombones, pBone and mixed brass
  • Woodwind - flutes, clarinets, recorders and fifes.
  • Ukulele
  • Guitar
  • Percussion - mixed instruments including pitched percussion and steel pans
  • Saxophone - Year 6 and KS3 only
  • Voice - Royal Opera House, Come and Sing Carmen, KS2 only

Option 3 - Choral direction and vocal tuition
£37 per hour

We can set up and lead choral groups of all styles, as well as providing whole class, individual and small group vocal tuition.

Option 4 - Key Stage 1 and Early Years
£42 per hour

A package of singing, percussion and string tuition to teach a broad range of basic music skills to young children.

Option 5 - Classroom music teaching
£42 per hour

We can teach the primary music curriculum for you. We also offer music technology and composition. This can be delivered to complement project themes or other school priorities, or as a broad-based music curriculum.

Option 6 - Piano accompaniment
£37 per hour

This can be for music exams or for school performances, or choir rehearsals.

Option 7 - Conducting and band directing
£37 per hour

We can develop and lead all types and sizes of instrumental ensembles, and at all levels from beginners to advanced.

Option 8 - After school music clubs 
£37 - £42 per hour, depending on size of the group.

We design the club to meet the interests of your children.

Build your music skills with Continuing Professional Development (CPD)

In addition to the above services, we also offer CPD sessions to support the teaching of music in schools. This will give you all the tools you need as a teacher to bring music into your classroom.

How does the music services charge schools?

  1. At the end of each term, we total the lessons and services you've received.
  2. We'll email you a detailed breakdown of charges for you to agree.
  3. Once we receive your agreement, we'll send you either an invoice or take payment through an internal recharge.
