Make your home and car smoke free

The national smoking ban, introduced in 2007, means you are not allowed to smoke in public places because it is so harmful to public health. So why smoke in your home or car? The local Smoke Free team can work with you to make your home and car a no smoking zone.

Not only is this better for you, it’s better for your family and anyone who spends time in your home or car so they don’t have to breathe in your harmful smoke.

The Smoke-free (Private Vehicles) Regulations 2015, introduced 1 October 2015, made it illegal to smoke in a private vehicle with someone under 18 years present. The law was brought in to protect children from the harm of second hand smoke in private vehicles.

  • Breathing in second hand smoke can increase the risk of lung cancer by 24% and heart disease by 25%.
  • It can also trigger asthma attacks and increase you and your family's chances of developing breathing or chest problems.

If you would like to pledge your home is smoke free and make your home a healthier place to live, please complete the online form (it takes less than 2 minutes).

The benefits to you and your family begin the minute you make your home smoke free.

In support of the smoke free legislation all fenced children’s playgrounds and play areas within the Rochdale Borough became smoke free zones at the end of 2013.
