The local Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment (PNA) provides vital information that helps local areas plan the provision of community pharmacies for their local people. The PNA is a way of making sure that pharmacies across the borough are providing the right services in the right locations to support its residents.
During the reorganisation of the NHS, the responsibility for production of the Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments transferred to the Health and Wellbeing Boards (HWB) which are hosted by the local authorities. Rochdale Borough HWB has produced their second PNA in collaboration with the Greater Manchester Shared Services (NHS).
Update on April 2022 Pharmaceutical Needs Assessment
The Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments is due to be renewed and published by Local Authority Health and Wellbeing Boards in April 2022.
Due to ongoing pressures across all sectors in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the requirement to publish renewed Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments has been suspended until October 2022. We've issued a revised supplementary statement about this in July 2021.
The Health and Wellbeing Board will publish updated Pharmaceutical Needs Assessments guidance in summer 2021. Therefore, we'll start to work on the revised needs assessment from October 2021.
