Domestic violence and abuse strategy

The domestic violence and abuse strategy sets out how agencies and services will work together to tackle domestic abuse across the borough of Rochdale. This is a priority for the Safer Communities Partnership, as we know that domestic abuse can have both devastating and lasting impacts on victims, children and families.

We've made significant progress on several fronts over the past 2 years but know we still have much to do. In this updated version of the strategy, we set out some of the developments we've made and what we intend to prioritise over the coming months through to the end of 2023.

Please note: this is an interim domestic abuse strategy for the Rochdale Safer Communities Partnership, in line with Part 4 of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021. We'll publish our first section 57 strategy on or before Sunday, 31 October 2021.

Domestic Abuse Act

The Domestic Abuse Act became law on 29 April 2021. It places some legal obligations on us, and we'll use this to shape our domestic abuse strategy.

Here are some of the things we need to do:

  • Provide safe accommodation for victims of domestic abuse.
  • Create a strategy for perpetrators of domestic abuse.
  • Update our domestic abuse strategy to align with the Domestic Abuse Act.
