Rochdale Borough Council has 60 elected members. There are currently:

48 Labour
10 Conservative
2 Liberal Democrat.

The council is responsible for appointing the Leader of the Council. On 18 May 2016 Councillor Richard Farnell was appointed as Leader of the Council for 4 years.​​​
