Work permits for children

If you're of compulsory school age, you may need a permit or licence for certain activities. You're of compulsory school age until the last Friday in June of the academic year in which you become 16 years of age.

Child employment licence

If you're at least 13 years old you can get a part time job but your employer may have to get a licence to hire you. Your employer will have to apply for the licence, not you or your parents.

You won't need a work permit or licence for work experience arranged by your school.

Child performance licence

If you want to take part in a performance, the person responsible for the performance will need to apply for a licence. The person responsible for the performance will have to apply for the licence, not you or your parents. Unless your parent is responsible for the performance.

You won't need a licence for performances organised by your school.
